In a bid to find a lasting and mutually beneficial resolution to the longstanding disputes surrounding military lands in Isiolo County, the Ministry of Defence, led by Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, convened a joint consultative meeting at the Defence Headquarters. The emotional disputes have strained relations between the Ministry of Defence and local communities, necessitating a collaborative effort to achieve a win-win solution.

Following a preliminary meeting on November 1st with the Isiolo County leadership and the local community, today's session aimed at furthering the dialogue and seeking common ground on the School of Infantry (SOI) land. Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale chaired the meeting, highlighting the need for concerted efforts to address the challenges at hand.

In the meeting, the participants, which included Isiolo County Governor H.E Abdi Guyo, Deputy Governor Hon. James Lowasa, Senator Fatuma Dhullo, Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya, Isiolo North Member of Parliament Joseph Samal, and community representatives, expressed their commitment to exploring all avenues for resolving the disputes. Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale highlighted the importance of finding an amicable solution to the School of Infantry land issue.

"Isiolo is one of the critical areas with a serious presence of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), where we train our soldiers. There's a need for ample training grounds and a buffer zone to enhance the safety of both the soldiers and the locals," stated Cabinet Secretary Duale.

The meeting concluded with a resolution to address the legal challenges by settling all court cases filed by the people of Isiolo against the School of Infantry. The participants agreed to give dialogue a chance and work towards an amicable resolution to the challenges faced by both the military and the local community.

To facilitate the resolution process, a technical team comprising members from the Ministry of Defence and the County will conduct a fact-finding visit to the site. This team is tasked with presenting viable recommendations within the next two weeks.

Accompanying Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale were Principal Secretary Mr. Patrick Mariru, Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics Major General David Keter, Commandant SOI Brigadier Pascal Kitiro, Chief of Legal Services from the Defence Headquarters Brigadier Yvonne Kerubo, and Chief of Infrastructure Brigadier Titus Sokobe, among other senior military officials.

The joint efforts between the Ministry of Defence and local leaders signify a commitment to resolving disputes, fostering harmony, and ensuring the well-being of both military personnel and the communities they serve.
